DCHS U14 hockey team
played their second fixture of the season against Chesham Grammar School on Tuesday. We won 11-0; Charlotte Braddock scoring a hat trick, Beth Welham with 4, Emily Sankey got 2, Emily Mann scoring 1 and voted Man of the Match. Ella Henry scored her first goal for Dr Challoner’s U14 hockey team. However our play and intensity was not up to scratch in the first half but as the match went on we held our formation a lot better and used each other to get round the players instead of going through them. We need to work on our discipline and still play at our best throughout the matches no matter who we are playing.

Sixth Form Lecture
Unfortunately our speaker for this week had to drop out on account of illness, nevertheless we had a fantastic alternative with inter-nal cover supervisor, Mr Simons, filling in to speak (on only a day's notice I might add!). Mr Simons is known throughout the school as a great role model, a funny, kind and interesting man. His previous career as a member of the Metropolitan Police led to many inspirational as well as funny stories to tell; sixth form were privileged to hear and experience a glimpse of life in the police force during the talk. Beginning as a police constable in the 1980's, Mr Simons rose to the role of Inspector in 2003. He described his shifts during Charles and Diana's wedding, the Miner's Crisis, the Cold War- where he helped manage peace strikes in the presence of ninety six nuclear missiles- and the London 7/7 bombings. When asked about the reputation of homophobia within the Metropolitan Police, Mr Simons asserted that, while when he first started this was present, in the modern day this has been eradicated. He also emphasised the equal gender roles within a modern day police force; there is no glass ceiling above women who choose to undertake a career in service. A particular highlight was Mr Simons’ funny story about the snake in the cell, you'll have to ask him about it as delivery of the tale was definitely key!
RS Trip
On Thursday the 8th of October 2015, the lovely Year 11 RS groups set off early for their day trip to Coventry. After a 7 o clock start and a 2 hour bus journey we were welcomed by the staff who then gave us a tour of the cathedral. We saw the ruins of the original Cathedral left from the bombings of Coventry, we had our photograph taken with beautiful scenery in the background. Please see more photos here.
YEAR 9 RS trip to the Holocaust Exhibition at the Imperial War Museum

Ciné-Club
The French department has been reviving the network of local Heads of Department, very useful for discussing all the forthcoming changes to GCSE and A level. As enrichment, we have also started up a film club. The inaugural meeting was on Wednesday, when a dozen girls joined interested staff, parents and DCGS boys to watch Omar Sy's latest film, "Samba". The themes are very pertinent, as it deals with a Senegalese refugee seeking a new life in France, and the legal and personal issues he must face. As the A level syllabus includes this topic, it will provide a very interesting stimulus for debate. Of course the film also entertains, in the inimitable style of Omar Sy's previous big hit "Intouchables". Girls and staff recommend it highly! iive le cinéma!
Netball
two Year 7 teams played against Beaconsfield High on Monday evening and despite a very delayed wait for the coach, the teams played well, winning both games. 10-4, 8-6. Well played to all the girls!
