Christmas Bash
The musicians of DCHS are now officially festive following last night’s Christmas Bash concert! It was such a fun evening and a real opportunity to let our hair down, have a mince pie and celebrate the wonderful school community that has built up around the Music Department.
Nothing says Christmas like a Brass Band and ours is no exception, giving us that warm, fuzzy feeling as they opened the evening. Junior Choir, excitable as ever and adorned with antlers, celebrated the role of the reindeer at Christmas, Wind Band got us Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, and Second Orchestra brought Slade to the party! Netball
The Year 7 netball team played Chiltern Hills on Thursday . It was the girls’ first match and the girls played with enthusiasm but lost the match 2-11.
National Cross Country
For the first time in over 10 years Challoner’s had two teams competing in the National Cross Country finals. The event this year took place at Beauchamp Middle School in Bedfordshire on Saturday 5th December. The conditions were ex-tremely challenging with wet ground and high winds. The girls in both the junior and intermediate teams were amaz-ing and a credit to the school. They ran extremely well against the best runners in the country in their respective age groups. Although we did not medal at the event I would like to highlight how much this group of girls have achieved in a short space of time. I would also like to thank the parents who attended the event and helped to cheer on and support the girls on the day. Special congratulations to the junior team; Jinaan Lockwood, Katie Repper, Millie Hughes, Olivia Cameron, Lily Holt and Isobel Swann; and to the intermediate team; Soraya Lockwood, Beth Welham, Lara Hill, Emily Sankey, Ella Lee and Jess Bailey. WELL DONE!!!
Football
I am writing to share some great news and an excellent achievement for the Girls U12's Chalfont Saints Team who won their league on Saturday. The team consists of three girls from Dr Challoner’s High. Mia Almendros, Isabel Burns and Holly Whittaker. Girls’ Football is getting more popular and the girls have been fantastic over the last three months. The Chalfont Saints Sharks side had a very tough game this Saturday against Risborugh Rangers and were successful in defeating them 4-0. Winning this game means they have won their league and will now play in a combined North and South League after the holidays. The girls are a pleasure to work with and continue to develop many skills like teamwork and communica-tion, encouraging each other through each of the games.
DCHS U14 hockey team
played their third fixture of the season against Sir William Borlase Grammar school on Tuesday. We came away drawing 1-1; Beth Welham having scored and Borlase getting an extremely lucky goal. Our play and intensity was not up to scratch in the first half, however, we came back in the second half playing much better as a team. As the match went on we held our formation a lot better, using each other to get round players. Amy Hamill, Emily Sankey and Lara Hill did a superb job of holding the middle of the pitch, stopping the skilful attack by Borlase. Soraya Lockwood and Emily Mann were effective in pressing forward on the wings, linking well with centre forward Charlotte Braddock. Read full article.
Music
DCHS’s musicians have remained busier than ever this week, venturing out into our local community to spread seasonal cheer! Saturday saw Junior Choir, Senior Choir and Brass Ensemble take to a mobile stage in Amersham-on-the-Hill as part of the town’s Christmas Showcase. Battling the blustery winds, the ensembles performed a 45-minute set which was well-received by all and offered the potential for further public engagements in the future. On Monday evening, Con Brio celebrated Christmas with a 2-hour gig at the Pomeroy Inn on White Lion Road. Singing a mix of seasonal material and otherwise, the girls showed just how much repertoire (and confidence) they have managed to build during the last 18 months as not a single song was repeated. With a sit-down meal beforehand, this was a truly enjoyable evening. On Tuesday, Close Harmony sang to the residents of Halifax House in Little Chalfont. Now a termly event, these visits make a valuable contribution to community life and are enjoyed by girls and residents alike. Hopefully, we’ve all got enough energy left for Tuesday’s Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols!
And Finally
Winning the competition for Challoner’s biggest (and brightest) baggage!
