The Year 7 hockey teams
played their first match against Wycombe High on Tuesday. It was a learning curve as the teams had not played together before, they were exciting games and fiercely competitive. Well played to all the girls!
A team lost 0-5 B team won 2-1.
Our first Challoner’s Christmas Fayre:

A very niche but fascinating career path
was the subject of the first lecture series of this half term. Hannah Shutt, an audiologist and lec-turer at Southampton University, spoke about her experiences in treating those with hearing deficiencies. This extended from testing the hearing of new borns to mending relationships within the elderly by restoring communication between a couple. Hannah shocked sixth form describing how we can now restore hearing to those born profoundly deaf through transplants; and the huge emotional effect this has on a person was shown through a video of a woman hearing for the first time. Interesting questions were also raised on speech impair-ments of those who are non hearing and the links between hearing and balance. Hannah said her favourite element of a career in audiolo-gy is the constant interaction with patients and the opportunity to guide them through the process of restoring their hearing. With a brief description of the Audiology course at Southampton University and its hands on approach, many girls were excited to research more into this career pathway.
